Ceramic coating is one of those things people either swear by or roll their eyes at, usually because they have seen a $99 "ceramic" special and a $1,500 professional job sold under the same name. They are not the same product, and that is where the confusion starts.
Here is the honest version: what a proper coating does, what it does not, and whether your car actually needs one.
What it actually does
A real ceramic coating is a liquid glass layer that bonds to your paint and cures hard. It locks in a deep, wet-look gloss, blocks UV and fallout, and makes the surface so slick that water and dirt bead up and slide off instead of sticking. Washing goes from a chore to a quick rinse.
What it does not do is stop stone chips or scratches. That is PPF's job. A coating is a chemical shield for gloss and easy cleaning, not physical armour, and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling.
Prep is the whole game
The coating is only ever as good as the paint underneath it. We do a full Stage 1 correction first, decontaminating and machine-polishing out swirls, because a coating locks in whatever it goes over. Skip that step and you seal the swirls in for years.
As an authorised Gtechniq applicator we fit their professional-only coatings the way the warranty requires, in a controlled studio, by hand. That is the difference between a coating that lasts years and a "ceramic wax" that is gone by spring.
So, worth it?
